This exciting discovery marks the 15th matched pair of 2025 and the 158th identified by Project 2013B since its inception in 2021, underscoring the ongoing allure of collectible U.S. dollar bills. This particular pair of 2013B Star Notes, each confirmed by photo proof from their respective co-owners, brings a unique backstory to the world of rare currency. 

 The 'Fort Worth' printed note was registered in 2025 by Project 2013B member Gri40, an avid collector from Florida. Gri40, inspired by Eric Miller on TikTok, developed a passion for hunting star notes and unique serial numbers, often acquiring new notes through their son's work at Papa John's. The 'Washington DC' printed counterpart was registered earlier, in 2024, by member o4iJY, who has a more extensive history with the project, having submitted a significant 27 serial numbers to the database. This collaboration between collectors, one relatively new and the other more seasoned, beautifully illustrates the community aspect of Project 2013B.

The matched pair of star notes, first discovered in the Project 2013B database, has found a new home through an exciting auction, closing at $1,644. This exceptional discovery began when Project 2013B identified the two rare notes within its extensive database and connected the two separate owners, recognizing the unique opportunity to unite the banknotes. Through careful coordination, the pair was graded and eventually listed for auction, drawing significant interest from collectors eager to secure this rare combination. A total of 17 auction house members were tracking this auction, and the listing racked up 630 views. The opening bid of $500 was quickly matched, with the price rapidly jumping to $1,550 before a last-minute bid pushed it up to $1,644. After the auction house's buyer's fee, the final price paid by the buyer was $1,849.50.

Final moments of the auction where a last-second bid secured the rare duplicated serial number error note pair for $1,894, plus buyer’s premium.

With just nine seconds remaining in Sunday’s auction, a final bid secured the winning price of $1,894. In addition to the hammer price, the buyer is responsible for a $236.75 buyer’s premium, bringing the total purchase amount to $2,130.75.

This particular pair features the duplicated serial number 00141128, which is currently the lowest known serial number ever confirmed and auctioned as a matched error pair. The production anomaly that led to the duplication occurred across three separate print runs, with the first run spanning serial numbers 00000001 to 00250000. As the earliest and oldest of the three runs, it is uncertain how many notes from this batch remain in circulation today.

Two matched pairs of 2013B Star Notes with duplicate serial numbers are currently available on GreatCollections.

The first pair, featuring the lowest serial number (00141128) of any known matched pair, is scheduled to close this Sunday, April 13, 2025. Initially identified by Project 2013B on November 2, 2024, this pair has been graded by PCGS as 25 and 30—slightly higher than the grades of other pairs sold in recent months.

The second matched pair, discovered by Project 2013B in May 2024 and bearing serial number 05748474, will be auctioned the following Sunday, April 20, 2025. PCGS has graded the notes in this pair as 25 and 20.
