This 2016 $10 selective colour coin celebrates the 50th anniversary of the television series Star TrekTM. The coin features Chief engineer of the U.S.S. Enterprise, Lieutenant commander Montgomery “Scotty” Scott (played by Canadian actor James Doohan). Mintage is limited to 12,500.
The Design: The coin features SCOTTY, wearing his red coloured uniform of the command division from Starfleet’s U.S.S. Enterprise. To the left is a colour portrait of “Scotty”, holding a hand-held device through which the famous command “beam me up” was relayed. To the right of the chief engineer is an engraved depiction of the communicator, allowing the viewer to get a close look at the iconic flip top cover, controls and components. Engraved in the background is the Starfleet’s Delta Shield Insignia.
