Welcome to 13Bay, our new marketplace! Explore fixed-price items and exciting auctions. Whether you’re after a great deal or the thrill of bidding, 13Bay has something for everyone. Discover your perfect item today!

After successfully consigning matched pairs at various auction houses, it became readily apparent that the fees incurred were excessive, if not downright greedy. The following table is a summary of fees and commissions charged to either the seller, the buyer, and quite often BOTH. It also compares other aspects for you to consider.

Comparison of 13Bay to other auction sites
Comparison of 13Bay to other auction sites

The ‘24 hour rule’ prevents last-second bids, giving everyone a fair chance to respond to being out-bid. Unlike eBay, where you can lose by a dollar in the final second, this rule extends the auction by 24 hours even if a bid is placed in the last second. This means you don’t have to monitor the auction constantly, or go out of your way to be available at the auction closing date and time. If someone bids at 7:59:59 pm, the auction extends to 7:59 pm the next day, giving you ample time to decide whether to increase your bid.

The web-page at https://bit.ly/13Bay shows all of the auctions and fixed-price listings in what I refer to as the 'Auction Table'. The table is not updated in real time like eBay, but more event driven as bids (or purchases) trickle in. The 24-hour close also helps make the auctions less time sensitive. For example: If the deadline of an auction is in 3 hours, but the last update was 2 hours ago there are several scenarios taken care of by the "soft close"
  • If you intend to put in a bid that is higher than the high bid shown in the table, you can rest assured that the auction deadline will be extended by 24 hours from the time you put in your bid. This is the case for any new high-bid that occurs during the last 24 hours of an auction's deadline.
  • If in the same scenario you put in a new higher bid, but someone else has put in an even higher bid than yours during the above scenario, the auction close will be extended 24 hours from THEIR bid time.

'Real-time data' can be found by clicking the tabs to the right of the "Auctions" tab. The "Latest_Bids" show the 10 most recent auction bids that have been submitted.  The "Latest_Purchases" tab shows the 10 most recent Lots that have been purchased (these are the fixed price "Buy-it-Now" listings).  When you submit a bid (or do a purchase), you should see your Lot and the first 3 characters of your email address show up in the appropriate tab within 1-5 minutes.

Currently the updates will be during daylight hours but I am working on making the updates of the table more frequent. If I delayed launching this until it was perfect, it literally would never be launched.

Fixed-Price listings (called "Buy-it-Now") will obviously be unaffected by table-updates as they are first come, first serve by nature.

Exposure:

Last month (July 2024) we averaged over 1,200 visitors daily. It is my hope that 13Bay will become the go-to place for buying and selling 2013B star notes. In the near future there will be a matched pair for sale, with a 2nd matched pair currently in the works.

How to use it:

The web-page at https://bit.ly/13Bay shows all of the auctions and fixed-price listings in what I refer to as the 'Auction Table'. The columns in the table are fairly self explanatory:

Item Category: The general category the item fits in, whether it is a coin, banknote (non 2013B star notes), or a 2013B item.

Listing Type: tells you whether the item is a timed auction or a "Buy-It-Now" item you can purchase right away.

Item Link: Clicking this takes you to a page that has the full description and photos of the item(s) for sale.

Item: The item that is up for auction or purchase.  Each listing will have a unique Lot number.

Bidding form: Clicking this link will take you to a partially pre-filled form. This is where you put in your bid for an auction item, or agree to purchase the item outright if the item is a "Buy-It-Now" listing.  In both cases the forms contain the very latest Terms & Conditions. The Terms & Conditions on this web-page should be the same, but if they are not, the one on the form will take precedence.

STATUS:  Anything with the status of LIVE is still actively accepting bids in the case of auction listing, or still available to purchase in the case of "Buy-it-Now" fixed price listings.

Bid By: If you are the highest bid on a current auction, the first 3 characters of your email address will show up here.

AUCTION High Bid: This is the current highest bid as of the last time the auction table was updated.  The last update time and date is shown in cell O11 and cell M1.

Buy It Now Price: The purchase price for the non-auction listings.

Reserve Price Met:  If the bids on an auction listing have met the minimum sale price that will be accepted, you will see a 'YES', at which point you just need to wait till the auction deadline for the sale to go through (assuming you are the highest bidder). This will automatically show 'YES' in cases where the auction has no reserve price.

Soft Close: This is the auction's deadline date.  It will be extended a further 24 hours if a new higher bid occurs in the last 24 hours leading up to the auction's deadline date and time.

Soft Close Time:  Assuming there are no higher bids in the last 24 hours, this is the time the auction ends on the soft-close date.

Number of Bids: just shows how many bids were submitted for the auction Lot in question.

Note: place for various message updates including announcing a new soft-close date, a Lot being sold recently, and more!

Last Updated:  show the time the auction table was last updated (in the yellow header cell).  The other dates and times show the last time there was any activity on the individual Lots.

Email Updates

You should expect to be notified when you have been out-bid, when you are the highest bidder, and when you have won an auction. The same goes for when submitting the purchase form for the fixed-price "Buy-it-Now" items.  The testing has shown that the reliability of these status emails is over 98%, but intermittently an email can fail to be delivered.  If you are expecting an email but did not receive one within an hour or two, check the auction table to see if the Lot you are interested in has had any updates (column O).

Have Something to Sell?

For the time being the listings will be limited to coins and paper currency. Depending on how things go the list of item categories might expand.  If you have something to sell, whether it be 2013B star notes, other collectible currency, or coins, please familiarize yourself with the section titled Terms and Conditions for Selling on 13Bay. If you find the terms and conditions acceptable,  kindly complete the form to allow us to assess the suitability of the items you wish to sell: Sell with us

24 hour close: A feature of an auction where there is no hard deadline. Any new high bid made within 24 hours of the 'soft close' (deadline) extends the auction a further 24 hours from when the high bid was made. This is to prevent 'sniping' where someone enters a higher bid at the last second and wins because the previous high bidder does not have enough time to respond with a higher bid (or is simply unaware till it is too late).

Auction: refers to the 21 day auction listings that feature a 24 hour soft-close.

Auction Table: This is the online page located at https://bit.ly/13Bay It is the main page of “13Bay” and contains all the listings of the items that are up for sale (either through an Auction listing, or a “Buy-It-Now” (fixed price) listing)

Always refer to the Lot’s description and the “Item Link” in the auction table, which will take you to the web-page that holds the detailed description and photos.

Reserve Price
: The absolute lowest price that the owner of the item(s) agrees to sell at. In the case of no sale, the listing can be extended indefinitely.

Proxy Bidding

There is NO proxy bidding. If your bid ends up being the winning bid, your bid you placed is the price you pay whether there were competing bids or not. Although 13Bay will make best efforts to send you an email if you are out-bid, do not rely on the timeliness as notices are manually sent out a few times a day at most. Although infrequent, emails that are sent can occasionally fail, so it is best to watch the status shown on the Auction Table and note the time of the last update that is shown.

Bidding

As mentioned above, there is no proxy bidding. You are free to make multiple bids on the same lot/item, but only the highest of the multiple bids entered will be considered as your final bid should you end up as the winning bid. There is no buyer’s premium.

Tied Bids

In the event two bids tie for the same item, then the bidder who submitted their bid first will win the item (assuming no higher bids are submitted by the auction deadline).

Reserve

Subject to any reserve price and the Vendor’s right to bid, the highest bidder shall be the purchaser and in the event of any dispute the lot may be re-offered and the Auctioneer’s decision shall be final. The status as to whether the Reserve Price has been met is shown on the Auction Table.

Cancellation

13Bay reserves the right to cancel any listing and/or purchase at any time. This may be due to typographical error, or other unforeseen circumstances.

The BIDDER (BUYER) can cancel their bid by contacting 13Bay to retract their bid(s). Cancelling by employing non-payment after the auction deadline may result in suspension, or an outright ban from 13Bay. In severe cases, the BUYER may be banned from participating in Project 2013B activities as well, including removal of any serial numbers submitted to the project.

Right of Refusal

The Auctioneer may, without giving any reason, refuse to accept the bid of any person. This will be particularly true in the case of bidders who have been banned from bidding, or are on Project 2013B’s list of banned individuals.

Errors

Should there be typographical errors on this form, or the Auction Table itself, 13Bay reserves the right to reject the winning bid. Best efforts will be used to hopefully avoid such cases before an auction deadline.

The Bidder is the Principle

The purchaser shall be deemed to be the principal buyer; meaning that bidding on behalf of someone else is prohibited.

Winning Bids

Please note that the winning bid (highest bid) by the auction deadline must meet the reserve price in order for the purchase to take place. Also note that the winning bid does NOT include shipping. Shipping charges are done at or near cost. Options such as tracking and insurance are offered but come with extra cost. Shipping options and their cost will be shown on each listing. Contact 13Bay, preferably before an auction ends, if you require something different than the options listed.

Payment

All transactions are carried out using the WISE (formerly Transferwise) payment system. There are no exceptions. For more details about WISE, please read about it at the following link: https://project2013b.blogspot.com/p/making-payments-with-wise.html

All payments must be in US funds.

Shipping

13Bay will charge for shipping near or at cost. The same applies to anyone requiring tracking and/or insurance.

13Bay will not be held responsible for mail that is misdirected, stolen, lost, or damaged. 13Bay will endeavour to pack your item in such a manner to prevent damage.

PLEASE NOTE: All items are shipped from CANADA. You will be solely responsible for any duties or taxes. As far as we can tell there are no duties on numismatic items, but we do not guarantee that. Do your own due diligence.

If anything is confusing, please contact me through the contact form at https://bit.ly/13contact
All bids are in US dollars. Your final cost will be your BID plus the actual cost of SHIPPING.

Winning Bid

If you are the “Winning Bidder” for the specific auction lot in this agreement, you will be notified and invoiced (typically within the 48 hours after the auction close) for the amount you bid plus the shipping option you choose. Failure to make payment may limit or outright ban you from future purchases and/or auctions.

Terms and Conditions for Selling on 13Bay

In the event that these terms and conditions differ than those shown on the Seller Agreement form, the Seller Agreement form will take precedence.

The following are the terms and conditions for using Project 2013B's marketplace section known as 13Bay to sell your item(s) through its consignment service, whether it be a fixed price listing or an auction listing.

Definitions

13Bay: refers to the to the Project 2013B’s marketplace, and specifically the “Auction Table”

Auction
: refers to the 21 day auction listings that feature a 24 hour soft-close.

Consignor: the person wishing to sell their item(s). Also known as the seller, and the owner of the items.

Consignee: 13Bay who is tasked with selling your item(s) on your behalf.

Fixed Price: refers to any listing that is listed at a "Buy-It-Now" price.

items: This refers to both collectible paper money and coins; basically numismatic items. Non-numismatic items may be considered but is at the discretion

Merchandise: The item to be sold; namely the items mentioned in the following section. The word item will be used interchangeably with merchandise in this agreement.

Reserve Price: The absolute lowest price that the owner of the item(s) agrees to sell at. In the case of no sale, the listing can be extended indefinitely.

Merchandise Ownership

The Consignor certifies that they are the owner of the listed items and have good title and the right to sell them, and are free from all encumbrances.

Merchandise Shipping and Handling

The Consignor is responsible for securely packaging and covering the postage costs for shipping their item(s) to 13Bay. 13Bay holds no responsibility for mail that is misdirected, stolen, lost, or damaged.

13Bay, is based in Canada, and will provide guidelines to help the Consignor avoid unnecessary duties or taxes during shipping. Any fees or duties incurred due to non-compliance with these instructions will be deducted from the item’s sale price or charged to the Consignor if the item doesn’t sell. While 13Bay will attempt to recover these charges from the local tax office, refunds are not guaranteed.

Responsibility for Loss or Damage, Insurance Coverage

The Consignor must keep 13Bay’s shipping address confidential for safety reasons and to prevent potential theft of yours (and others) items.

Consignment Fees and final proceeds

This agreement pertains to the sale of item(s) on Project 2013B's marketplace, herein known as 13Bay. When a sale is made, and payment has been made in full by the buyer, the Consignor will be paid the remaining proceeds, after deducting the 8% fee charged by 13Bay. The 8% fee is based on the purchase price (for fixed price listings) or the final hammer price (highest bid) in the case of auction listings.

The cost of shipping the sold item(s) to the buyer is paid by the buyer.

Communications

13Bay will make best efforts to keep the Consignor informed throughout the process. This can range from confirmation of items received, to confirmation of sale, and confirmation of payment. All communication will be done through email.

13Bay's right to cancel

In the event of unforeseen circumstances, 13Bay reserves the right to cancel listings. In the event of a listing cancellation, the Consignors items will be returned at no cost to them, or postponed to a later date if the Consignor is agreeable to that proposal. Cancellation may also occur if the Consignors change requests become too frequent or are not deemed within reason. This could particularly be the case on low value items where 13Bay deems the possible 8% fee is 'not worth the hassle'.

Seller's right to cancel

The seller has the right to cancel as long as there are no bids above the reserve price (in the case of auctions), or there is no purchase in process (in the case of fixed price listings where a buyer has just bought the item at the listing's price shown). Barring the two mentioned scenarios, if cancellation is chosen, the seller will be required to pay the shipping costs of sending their items back to them. 13bAY holds no responsibility for mail that is misdirected, stolen, lost, or damaged.

Change of Listing Type

The item listing type can be changed by the Consignor. An auction could be changed to a Fixed Price listing, and vice-versa. Again, this is assuming that no purchase is in process, and that no bid has been entered that is above the reserve price. 13Bay may refuse to change the listing if it has not been given enough time to 'work' or if the frequency of changes is not within reason. Refer to section 13Bay's right to cancel.

Price change & Reserve Price

The Consignor has the right to change the price of a Fixed Price listing at any time. The frequency of changes should be within reason, and may be delayed by the volume of sales from other listings. The same applies to auctions in which the Consignor may wish to change the Reserve Price. Refer to section 13Bay's right to cancel.

Best Offers

13bAY may receive a “Best Offer” lower than the current price on a fixed price listing. In that event Consignor will be notified if they agree to the "Best Offer" amount, a new purchase form with the new price will be sent to the buyer, and only once payment has been made by the buyer, will the listing be marked as SOLD.

Additional sales platforms

13bAY may choose to list your fixed price items on other sites like eBay at a fixed price. This price will be higher than that on 13Bay to offset the other site’s higher fees, ensuring net proceeds match (or exceed) the proceeds that would have resulted from the sale at 13Bay. For some platforms like eBay, payments may be held by 13Bay for 30 days due to their return policy (to be reassured that the sale is REALLY FINAL).

Payment

The Consignor will be paid in US funds via direct deposit (using WISE) or via a transfer from 13Bay's WISE account to the Consignor's WISE account. For more details about WISE, please read about it at the following link: https://project2013b.blogspot.com/p/making-payments-with-wise.html

Payment Terms

13Bay uses WISE money transfers. It is much cheaper than PayPal and has other advantages as well. It is described at the following link in detail:
