This initiative boasts 67,025 unique registered serial numbers, each meticulously recorded with contact information. Since the last confirmed match, 692 new serial numbers have been added. The project has grown to include 16,204 members, with 162 new participants joining since the previous match.

A notable highlight includes the 'Fort Worth' printed 2013B star note, registered in 2024 by member aEnc3, who has contributed five serial numbers. Additionally, the 'Washington DC' printed 2013B star note, registered in 2022 by member dqI9y, has a remarkable 1,284 serial number submissions. Project 2013B, an initiative that unites collectors of matching 2013B 'Duplicated Serial Number' star notes, has reached an impressive milestone with 65,000 serial numbers now recorded in its database. This unique project aims to connect individuals who own these special $1 star notes, created due to a printing error by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. This error led to the duplication of serial numbers between the Washington DC and Fort Worth, TX facilities, a rarity among New York (B seal) Federal Reserve Notes, making them highly coveted among collectors.

As we celebrate this significant achievement of 65,000 serial numbers, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has contributed to this growing database. If you see your serial number, or Owner ID, at the following webpage, then you need to contact Project 2013B because you are part-owner of a matched pair!

NOT a duplicate serial number matched pair

From time to time one member will want to reach out to another member in the database. Since email privacy is paramount, requests have to go through the Project 2013B administrator (me). If the recipient agrees to be contacted, they are provided the inquirer's email address and they can chat, negotiate, or 'whatever'.

Above was a novel case of someone who had a banknote that was NOT a star note, but had the same serial number and the same Federal Reserve District Seal ('The B Seal') as the note of another member.

Now this is NOT a Duplicated Serial Number matched pair, but it is a more common (non-duplicated) matching serial number pair which apparently some people collect. They can be the same denomination, different denominations, some only have the serial numbers match with no regard to the first letter and last letter, and so on.  Nowhere near as valueable as a true 2013B duplicated serial number matched pair, but worth roughly anywhere from 18 to 80 dollars (maybe more) depending how closely matched they are. It's possible to find two matching star notes but chances are very good that the two notes will be from a different year (Series) or different denominations.

Here's an example of a pair similar to the example at the top (but different denominations), which recently sold on eBay for $79.90

Here's a closer match... matching star note serial numbers with the only difference being one was a 2006 banknote and the other was a 2017 banknote.  This pair sold for $279.00

As the match becomes more difficult to 'make', the prices go way up. Here's some pretty Canadian bills where all 4 denominations have matching serial numbers, and graded to boot. Their serial numbers being low (154) helps the price a lot.  Sold for $1930.80 USD.

A new thing to collect?

If you are the type to search through dollar bills looking for the elusive 2013B star notes, keep an eye on the non-star notes as well.  Should the owner of the 2013B star note shown at the start of the article ever get matched up with someone who owns the Washington DC printed bill, the other bill that ends with an 'F' will not make the value of the pair explode but it will add extra novelty, and collectors will generally pay for extra novelty.  How much extra is to be seen.
