As a Boy Scout leader I was a Coin Collecting merit badge counselor. One of the requirements for the badge is to visit the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. I took a group of scouts to the BEP in Washington DC where we learned about why a star is sometimes found associated with the serial number on US paper currency. Ever since that visit I have casually collected star notes that I find in change. This is how I came to acquire the duplicate note shown in the attached image.
