Project 20138 is dedicated to helping owners find matching serial numbers for their 2013 star notes. When a match is found in the Project 20138 database, both owners are notified. They are then required to submit photo proof of their bills. Only after verification are the owners' contact emails revealed to each other. This system ensures the authenticity of the match and promotes trust within the currency collecting community.

Unfortunately, a recent incident has come to light involving a less-than-honorable individual, which I will refer to as "Sly" who has created a copycat version of my website. While "Sly" is free to create his own site and list, it was less than honorable to copy my project name and make a minor tweak to it by adding "2.0." This minor difference in name has already led to confusion among users. Despite my feelings toward "Sly," the individual does have a matching serial number and was contacted about the match. lt would have been highly unfair, and unethical,  to the other banknote owner to do so otherwise.

Furthermore, Sly copied an old list (without permission) from Project 20138 when there were 47,000 serial numbers in the database. This list did not include any contact information for the individual banknote owners. Nevertheless, Sly continues to pad his total serial numbers as being over 50,000, misleading users about the true scope and integrity of his database.

Before the contact information of either owner of a bill is released, the first hurdle is photo-proof that they actually have the bill they submitted however many months (or  years) ago. The next hurdle is secret but involves verifying that the information on the bill is valid.  Ole Sly tried to advertise his website in his photo-proof. Hard pass.

At least I now have a potential new slogan for my website:

“Project 2013B: where copycat websites come to find their match.”

Matched Pair 04574890 sells at auction

Matched Serial Number 04574890

Final closing bid
Final closing bid

Sunday night’s auction at Great Collections concluded and resulted in another pair submitted by Project 2013B being sold. The pairs, serial number 04574890, was submitted on behalf of the two co-owners, and sold for $1477.02.  After the buyer paid their premium, their total cost was 1661.65. The matched pair was pretty circulated, with both notes graded a 'Very Fine 25'.  The final bid was probably reasonable considering that a different matched pair which had better condition notes(graded Very Fine 30, and Very Fine 35) is still unsold. Not sure who exactly submitted the better condition pair, but it has been in at least 2 auctions since November, and failed to receive a bid on it's starting bid level of $2000.   Perhaps featuring the pair 04574890 (submitted by Project 2013b) on social media, facebook groups, this website, and the website's newletter had a real impact.

As I mentioned in previous posts, GreatCollections does not really do much in terms of promotion of your auction item.  They post your item on your site and that is about it.  If someone finds it in search, that is pretty much the exposure you get from what I can tell.  They do have a weekly emailed newsletter that alerts you of the next auction. It features images and the current bid of predominently gold or rare coins. In a recent newletter, I counted 345 coins shown, and only 20 banknotes shown.  Of the 20 banknotes, the vast majority were over 100 years old.  The matched pair that was consigned through Project 2013B sold at a price higher than half of the notes that were in the newsletter, so it is puzzling what gets you shown in their newsletter.
