Confirmed Match! SN B* 00184395

Duplicate Serial Number 00184395*

The first ever matched pair discovered in Run #1 of the 3 separate runs of duplicated serial numbers!

A rarer than usual match

The shared serial number of  00184395, marks the lowest serial number found for a 2013B matched pair. It is also the first pair discovered in what currency collectors refer to as run #1

What is Run #1?
In late 2014, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (Washington DC facility) printed three star note runs for the New York "B" district. Nothing special about it. They printed these serial number ranges:

Printed in Washington DC
B 0000 0001 * - B 0025 0000 * (October 2014) Run #1
B 0320 0001 * - B 0640 0000 * (November 2014) Run #2
B 0640 0001 * - B 0960 0000 * (November 2014) Run #3

A year and a half later, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (this time the Fort Worth facility) printed three more star note runs for the New York "B" district. They printed these serial number ranges:

Printed In Fort Worth
B 0000 0001 * - B 0320 0000 * (June 2016) Run #1
B 0320 0001 * - B 0640 0000 * (June 2016) Run #2
B 0640 0001 * - B 0960 0000 *  (July 2016) Run #3

All of the previous 62 matched pairs were from either Run #2 or Run #3.  Though 320,000 notes were printed at Fort Worth, starting with serial number 00000001, the range of serial numbers printed at Washington DC only went up to 00250000, so there are only 250,000 duplicated serial numbers in Run #1.   I calculated the odds of finding a serial number from Run 1 versus the much bigger runs of Run #2 and Run #3, and it came out to 1 in 25.6, so by now we should of discovered 2 pairs from this smaller run.  Some might argue that Run #1 was printed before Run 2 and 3, so those bills are older and were pulled from circulation once they became tattered enough.  The time gap between Run 1 and Run 2 was only 1 month though.

This is PROJECT 2013B's 51st confirmed match! There are now 63 confirmed matching pairs over the history of this project, the project that preceded it, and matched pairs spotted at auctions. Started in October of 2021, Project 2013B started with a list of 10,072 banknotes, and now has over 37,863 unique banknotes registered it its database, and 6852 members.

Remember to check your spam folders just in case a matching pair announcement is emailed to you, and you could see your bill showcased here... not to mention having set that could bring thousands of dollars at auction (subject to bills condition of course).  Subscribe to the newsletter for extra 'insurance' against the spam folder scenario. Check the match-making list to see if your serial number (or member ID) is on the list of people I need to hear back from:
